This Subhashita beautifully plays with words to compare old age with Kaliyuga.
shruti (what is heard as well as the Knowledge of the Vedas) has weakened. smruti (memory as well as the Scriptures passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth) has disappeared. gati (walking as well as the Final Destination) has remained only for viShayah (need as well as object of desire). Row of dvijaa (teeth as well as the Learned people) has disappeared. Groups of go (cow as well as sense organs) are not performing their work. Indeed this old age is behaving like Kaliyuga.
