The Scriptures talks about the four-fold divisions of society – Brahmacharyaashram (Bachelor Student Stage of Life) where one stays with the teacher and learns various skills, pursuits as well as the Scriptures; Gruhasthaashram (Married House-holder Stage of Life) where one focuses on earning a livelihood and spending for fulfilling his legitimate desires; Vaanaprasthaashram (Transitional Retired Stage of Life as a prelude to Sanyaasa) where one hands over all his responsibilities to the next generation, takes advisory role and gradually withdraws from the world and Sanyaasaashram (Renunciate Stage of Life) where one withdraws from this world with a single-pointed focus on study, assimilation and propagation of the Knowledge of the Scriptures. As can be seen from the very basis of the division all the three divisions other than Gruhasthaashram are not entitled to earning their livelihood and depend on a House-holder for their daily necessities. House-holders too understand and appreciate their responsibility in supporting these divisions of the society and resort to various forms of charity, which sustain these divisions. It is this system of division that is referred to by the Subhashitakar in here, when he says –
Just like flowing waters of all small and big rivers find refuge only in the ocean, all living beings lead a life taking refuge in a house-holder.

inHarih om Shri Gurubhyo namah.
Our Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati ji has attained Mahasamadhi, at Rishikesh, next to his beloved Ganga, at around 10:20 PM (Sept. 23rd, 2015). We are all blessed to have been alive at a time when we could all seek Pujya Swamiji’s blessings. He was an embodiment of compassion, and an incomparable teacher of Brahma Vidya. Words fall short to describe his greatness and relevance in many of our lives. May we all seek his blessings to live up to his teachings, and uphold his vision for Dharma and Vedanta. Harih Om Shri Gurubhyo Namah
Brahmanandam parama sukhadam kevalam jnanamurtim
dvandvaateetam gagana sadrusam tatvamasyadi lakshyam
ekam nityam vimala machalam sarvadheesaakshibuutam
bhaavaateetam triguna rahitam sadgurum tam namaami.
I salute to that Sadguru who is the source of eternal bliss, supreme happiness, who has true wisdom, who is beyond the dualities, who is infinite, whose attention is always on the divine, who is unique, eternal, pure, steady, and who sees with the eyes of wisdom who is beyond thoughts and beyond three gunas.
